Eating Healthy in Ramona is a blog created by Avalon Shelton and Nicole Curristan for the community of Ramona, CA. We have a passion for eating healthy and supporting our small town, so our focus for our Harvest Award for the Sow What? Senior Journey was to share with others what we have learned about locally harvested foods and processed and organic foods.

Enjoy reading about the different healthy foods that are available, and explore the many local sources for fresh foods.

Supporting your local farms = supporting your local economy, which keeps small businesses thriving. Eating locally also means eating what is in season which is better for the environment as well as your taste buds!

Free range and organic eggs are the main product you'll find here, but other offerings such as honey, pickled garlic, baked goods, cheese, raw milk, coffee, and chocolate are also available. The farm has 5,000 chickens producing over 3,000 eggs a day. The hens are fed an organic corn-free and soy-free diet, and are protected by their three Anatolian shepherds and three llamas. They are open everyday except Sunday. You can sign up for a tour to see happy hens in person.

Succulents, jams, pickled vegetables, dried fruits as well as all kinds of fresh produce can all be found here on the west end of Ramona. Fresh eggs can be found here as well. Ask them about their Fresh Basket Program, their CSA (community supported agriculture) box subscription which contains a box filled to the brim with fresh produce. Check out their Facebook page where they advertise their many classes that they offer.

A family owned farm open seasonally that sells fresh fruits and veggies, and all around great atmosphere. They close the stand when they sell out of their spring produce and open back up when they have their Chile Roast in the fall.

Connelly farms is a great place for local ingredients at the east end of Ramona. They offer a wide selection of herbs, microgreens, and vegetables. Connelly Farms has been in business since 1985. Check out their Facebook page for their latest news and fun dog pictures.

Open all day, everyday, Page's has a wide variety of farm-fresh certified organic produce, herbs, and plants. They are best known for their killer tomatoes (Killer Tomato Organic Farm Stand). Check out their Facebook page for their latest offerings.
